What you’ll see

What you’ll see in Aranjuez

Aranjuez sits about 45 minutes south of Madrid — a royal town on the fertile plain where the rivers Tagus and Jarama meet, built around an 18th-century Royal Palace and a sweep of formal riverside gardens. The palace, its gardens and the planned town together make up a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape, shaped over the centuries where designed nature meets flowing water. The town has long been famous for its strawberries, once carried up to Madrid on one of Spain’s oldest railways. With your own car and driver, a full day is plenty to wander the palace, the gardens and the old town at an easy pace.

A day in Aranjuez

It’s only a suggestion — the car and driver stay with you all day, so you set the order and the pace.

  1. Morning

We collect you from your Madrid hotel or address and drive south, arriving in about 45 minutes. Start at the Palacio Real de Aranjuez, the riverside royal residence, and take in its grand façade and the Plaza de San Antonio that opens the town toward the palace.

  2. Late morning

Spend the late morning in the royal gardens — the formal Jardín del Parterre beside the palace, the Renaissance Jardín de la Isla threaded by the Tagus, and the vast Jardín del Príncipe along the river.

  3. Lunch

Break for a relaxed lunch — Aranjuez is known for its strawberries and asparagus, and for classic Castilian cooking in the old town. There’s no clock to watch; the driver waits while you eat.

  4. Afternoon

In the afternoon wander the planned old town around the Plaza de San Antonio and its church, then follow the riverside walks along the Tagus before you head home whenever you’re ready.

Good to know

Aranjuez — good to know

What is there to see in Aranjuez in one day?

In a full day you can comfortably see Aranjuez’s main sights: the 18th-century Royal Palace, the formal Parterre garden beside it, the Renaissance Jardín de la Isla on the Tagus and the vast Jardín del Príncipe along the river, plus the planned old town around the Plaza de San Antonio. The palace, gardens and town are a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape, so much of the pleasure is simply strolling between them.

How much time do you need in Aranjuez, and where does the driver drop us off?

A full day is ideal — with about 45 minutes’ drive each way, you still have six or seven hours in the town. Aranjuez is flat and its palace, gardens and old town sit close together, so your driver drops you right by the Palacio Real and picks you up wherever suits, handling the parking. From there you can reach the gardens and the Plaza de San Antonio on foot.

Can we combine Aranjuez with another destination in the same day?

Yes — because the car and driver are yours for the day, many guests pair Aranjuez with Chinchón and its circular Plaza Mayor, about half an hour away, or with Toledo, roughly forty minutes on. Just tell us when you book so we plan the route and timings; it’s the same private car, at one fixed price agreed up front.

Is Aranjuez worth it as a day trip from Madrid?

For most visitors, yes — Aranjuez is one of the closest royal sites to Madrid, about 45 minutes away, and a single day covers the palace, the riverside gardens and the old town without feeling rushed. Going privately means no train times to catch and no shared bus, so you leave and return exactly when you like.
