Toledo sits about 50 minutes south of Madrid — a hilltop old town, wrapped by the river Tagus and listed by UNESCO, where a Gothic cathedral, a fortress Alcázar and centuries of Christian, Jewish and Muslim history share the same maze of streets. With your own car and driver, a full day is plenty to see the highlights without rushing.

The day, roughly

A day in Toledo

It’s only a suggestion — the car and driver stay with you all day, so you set the order and the pace.

  1. Morning

We collect you from your Madrid hotel or address and drive south, arriving in about 50 minutes. Start in the old town around Plaza de Zocodover, the historic main square, and wind down through the medieval streets.

  2. Late morning

Visit the Gothic cathedral of Santa María, whose main façade faces the Ayuntamiento de Toledo across the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, and explore the old Jewish quarter, with the Sinagoga del Tránsito and Santa María la Blanca — two of the best-preserved medieval synagogues in Spain.

  3. Lunch

Break for a relaxed lunch — Toledo is known for its marzipan and hearty Castilian dishes. There’s no clock to watch; the driver waits while you eat.

  4. Afternoon

See the Alcázar and, before you head back, the driver can take you up to the Mirador del Valle — the classic viewpoint across the Tagus and the full skyline of the old town. Head home whenever you’re ready.

Good to know

Toledo — good to know

What is there to see in Toledo in one day?

In a full day you can comfortably see Toledo’s main sights: the Gothic cathedral, the Alcázar, the old Jewish quarter with the Sinagoga del Tránsito and Santa María la Blanca, and the Mirador del Valle viewpoint across the river Tagus. The whole old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, so much of the pleasure is simply walking its medieval streets.

How much time do you need in Toledo, and where does the driver drop us off?

A full day is ideal — with about 50 minutes’ drive each way, you still have six or seven hours in the city. Toledo’s old town is steep and largely pedestrian, so your driver drops you right by the old town (around Plaza de Zocodover) and picks you up wherever suits, handling the parking. Before the return, many guests ask to stop at the Mirador del Valle for the panorama.

Can we combine Toledo with another destination in the same day?

Yes — because the car and driver are yours for the day, you can pair Toledo with a nearby town such as Aranjuez or Chinchón for a long lunch. Just tell us when you book so we plan the route and timings; it’s the same private car, at one fixed price agreed up front.

Is Toledo worth it as a day trip from Madrid?

For most visitors, yes — Toledo is one of the closest and most complete historic cities to Madrid, about 50 minutes away, and a single day covers the cathedral, the Alcázar and the old town without feeling rushed. Going privately means no train times to catch and no shared bus, so you leave and return exactly when you like.
